After lunch, we hopped on the subway and headed off to Ground Zero.
This is the new Freedom Tower.
These fountains span the surface area of the former twin towers.
The names of the victims were engraved around the sides of the fountains.
When it started to rain, we went into the museum for a tour. It was incredible. It's hard to describe the feelings we had as we toured the exhibit. It was definitely a spiritual experience.
This was the only staircase that survived the destruction. This was one of the only ways out of the buildings.

This quilt was so impressive. Pictures of all the passengers from both airplanes, the pentagon and first responders were sewn into this giant quilt.
After we toured the museum, we went across the street to see St. Paul's Chapel, which survived the destruction of 9/11, due to a large sycamore tree that caught the debris and protected the church.
We couldn't go in the church or walk on the grounds because they were doing some reconstruction work, but we were able to see through to the cemetery where the sycamore tree had fallen and been replaced by a cedar.
We did a little more sight-seeing on our way back to the hotels.
We had to stop at FAO Schwartz to play on the Big piano. It was a fun store and Steph was really excited to be there.
The boys were too hungry to wait for dinner so they ran to the Gyro stand to grab a snack.
It took a while, but we finally found a place that served real New York style cheesecake. It was awesome!
