Our little angel, Quinn
Saturday, January 9, 2010, our little girl was born about 23 weeks early. I went in for a routine doctor's appointment Thursday morning. When we didn't hear the heartbeat, I knew she was gone. We had an ultrasound that confirmed what I already knew. We found out that she was a girl and that she looked perfectly healthy and was right on target for her growth. The doctor felt that she must have passed away sometime during the night or that morning because I had been feeling her move the night before. He said that the baby looked perfect and that he thought her cord had been pinched or twisted in some way.
I was sent to the hospital on Thursday night to enduce labor. The process was slow and difficult to deal with. Mike and I had a short time to pray and make decisions about what to do. I was given the lowest dose of a drug called cytotec to help soften my cervix and prepare my body to go through labor. The doctors were concerned that with my previous c-sections that my uterus would rupture. After about 12 hours of being on the lowest dose and having little progress, they doubled my medication. After another 12 hours, and only a little more progress, they tripled it. And finally, I received a dose 4 times more that what I started with. Around 5 a.m. Saturday morning, my contractions became regular and intense. At about 9:30 a.m. I decided that I should maybe ask for an epidural. By the time I received my epidural and before it actually kicked in, I had one more hard contraction and Quinn was born. Mike and I were alone at the time because the doctors didn't know how much longer it would take. They said it could happen within the hour or it could be up to another 24 hours. We were grateful that she had finally come and that we could start moving on. We were able to spend some time with her and take foot and hand prints, and some pictures. We had time to say our goodbyes and then I went to recovery for a few hours, and was able to come home.
This has been a very difficult trial for us, but as we all know, our trials can also become great blessings. We have a beautiful, perfect daughter who has gone to live with her Heavenly Father. We appreciate more the other three children that we are blessed to still have with us. And, we have an opportunity to grow closer to our Savior and to eachother.
I am so grateful that we have the knowledge of the gospel and that we know that we will see our daughter again and that our children can know that they will get to be with their baby sister again. I am so grateful to all of our family and friends who have given so much love and support to us, and who continue to get us through this trial and the long days ahead.
Thank you.

Christmas Break
We did lots of fun stuff during Christmas break this year. We started it all off by taking a trip to Temple Square to see the lights.
