Last Wednesday morning, I met Steph and Matt at the Brigham City hospital to photograph their birth story. I was so honored and excited that they would ask me to be with them. It was such a fun, exciting, spiritual, amazing, beautiful experience. I am so glad I was able to be there to welcome my newest little niece into the world and capture it all on camera.
After checking in, we arrived in the birthing room at 8 a.m.
Catherine was the nurse Stephanie had chosen. She came in to help her fill out paper work, get her IV started and get her all settled in. The doctor came in to break her water.
Then the waiting began.
She started to feel a little pain as the contractions began, so Matt gave her a nice foot massage to help her relax.
After a while of not much action, she decided to take a walk.
After the walk, Catherine gave her some ice chips and got out the ball.
After being dialated to about a 6-7 for much too long, she decided to start the petocin around 11 a.m.
That's when she really started to feel the pain.
That's when Matt started to feel the pain, too :)
It was hard to see Steph in so much pain. It brought back a lot of memories of laboring with Quinn, and the pain that I felt not only from labor, but from losing a child. I shut that down really quick, though, since I had a big job to do. It helped to have a camera in hand.
Matt was a great support. I loved watching him try to comfort Steph and build her up.
After about an hour on petocin, Steph was getting ready to push, so they called the doctor and got everything ready.
One big push and she was here.
The doctor held her up and that's when we realized she was a girl!

After Charlotte was bathed and fed, Rhett and Capri, Grandma and Jenny came to visit. I loved watching the kids' reactions to their new little sister.
Did I mention that Steph was amazing?! She was so tough. No epidural, no screaming, and no drugs afterward. She was seriously awesome!
