Trek: Day 1

Mike and I were so blessed to be able to have the opportunity to be able to go to Trek last week with the youth in our stake.  It was an amazing experience-- one I will never forget.
We met at the stake center for a short devotional and drove down to the church's handcart site in Elberta.
When we arrived, the handcarts were lined up all in a row and ready to go.
We met in the lodge for some introductions, a few rules, and to split into families, and then we took one last trip to the Honey Buckets before we set off on our big journey.
We had a few minutes before we set off on the trail, so...
We posed for a few pics before we set off on the trail.
And this was our cute family... Harley, Cody, Kellis, Jace, Mickelle and Kelsee.
 And we were off!
The first day we led the company and tried not to kill them all off with our speed.
Along the trail, we had a few opportunities to stop and learn a little about the pioneers.  Harley had a chance to read a story to the group and then it was back to the trail.
At lunch time, we stopped to eat, air out our shoes and play.
 And sleep.
We had a wild game of missionary tag and headed back out on the trail.
It was hot and dusty and miserable, so we were happy when we finally got to camp.  I got a migraine and kind of checked out until dinner was done, but I snapped out of it just in time for the Ma and Pa skits.
Brother White, our trail boss, announced the skits and kept everything rolling.
The Thatcher's and the Tukuafu's had a great lip sync.
The Frazier's and Booker's played, "The Three Little Pigs."

The Woodruff's and the "aunts" had everyone laughing with their skit.
The Thatcher's stole the camera from me to take some pics of our skit with the Scott's and the Johnson's about the foolish bandit.

Thankfully, Brother Scott survived all of the times we dropped him in the dirt.
And the Foolish Bandit found his way back.
Then we got to learn about standing in "holy" places from the Stanger's and the Thatcher's.
To finish off the night, we were entertained by the Smith's and the Jensen's with their wet performance.
After the skits, the senior missionary couples led us in some dancing.
We had a great time watching our kids get out there and have some fun.
And, eventually, we even got Jace out there.
It was a beautiful night and the perfect ending to a really long and dirty day.
And before bed, we enjoyed a little fire and a little devotional with our little family.
